Company History

Mixtec was founded in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa (RSA) in 1984 by its two founders, who had been in the agitator business since their earliest days with UK-based APV/Kestner Industries, started in 1930. Kestner Industries was the original home of the current Mixtec-UK. Starting in the early 1970s, APV became the exclusive agent for Philadelphia Gear for RSA as a sales, service and manufacturing operation in Johannesburg. Under the APV Group, Mixtec manufactured and designed a wide range of agitators and gearboxes until it became a stand alone organization in 1984.

In 1999, Salt Lake City-based WesTech Engineering, Inc. acquired a company in Denver called Bateman Process (formerly Ore Sorters of North America [OSNA]) from a South African Company called Bateman. Along with that acquisition, OSNA’s agreement with Mixtec came along, too. WesTech subsequently negotiated a contract to represent, design, manufacture, and supply agitators to the North American market – a joint venture that came to be called Mixtec North America.

In 2008, a team of interested investors chose to purchase from WesTech Engineering, Inc. its interests in Mixtec, and this entity subsequently formed its own corporation called Mixtec North America, Inc.
